AI Work Item Assistant

The AI Work Item Assistant creates and manages ADO items at the speed of AI. From ideation to execution, the AI Work Item Assistant helps you save time in crafting high-quality items.

The AI Work Item Assistant has four capabilities within your Azure DevOps environment:

​• AI Work Item Generator for Instant Work Item Generation
• AI Child Item Generator for automated Child item creation
• AI Work Item Editor for smart refinement of work items
• AI Work Item Insights for actionable insights for a work item

​​​AI Work Item Generator

Generate new ideas and work items with AI from uploaded user feedback, project documents, and more.

​​Generate new items
     1.  Open Boards → AI Work Item Generator

     2.  Enter your idea or paste content; optionally attach files.

     3.  Click Generate Ideas, select a draft, then Save.

     4.  Review the generated features in a table.

     5.  Regenerate, Delete or Save items as drafts if satisfied. You can
          also refine it using the AI Work Item Editor to enhance the quality
          and details of the work item further.

     6.  Once you've drafted a work item, you’ll see a close icon at the top
          right of the dialog opened from Azure DevOps—please use that to
          exit instead of the browser’s back button, which will take you to the
          previous page rather than closing the popup and returning to the
          AI Work Item Generator context.

     7.  Provide feedback by clicking the "Thumbs Up 👍" or "Thumbs
          Down 👎" buttons.

​AI Child Item Generator 

Generate the first draft for child items such as user stories, tasks or test cases using AI based on the content of the parent.

     1.  Select the "AI Child Item Generator" tab from the work item page.

     2.  Review the generated features in a table.

     3.  Regenerate, Delete or Save items as drafts if satisfied.

     4.  Provide feedback by clicking the "Thumbs Up 👍" or "Thumbs
          Down 👎" buttons.

​Refine with AI

In the work item form, explain what changes you want AI to make or use one of the pre-defined instructions.

     1.  Select a specific field to refine, such as title, description, or
          acceptance criteria.

     2.  Choose either a predefined prompt or write a custom prompt to
          refine the work item.

     3.  Click the "Send Instructions" button to refine the work item based
          on the chosen prompt.

     4.  Undo the recent change if needed by clicking the "Undo" button.
  
     5.  Provide feedback by clicking the "Thumbs Up 👍" or "Thumbs
          Down 👎" buttons.

​​AI ​​Work Item Insights

Gain a deeper understanding of your work items and make data-driven decisions via real-time insights, summarized discussions enabling users to make better decisions and improve overall productivity. (Something does not flow right here- need to review)

​​Get insights
     1.  In a work item, choose More actions → AI Work Item Insights

     2.  Ask questions in natural language or use one of the pre-defined
          prompts to summarize discussions, extract decisions, or track
          progress.
  
     3.  Provide feedback by clicking the "Thumbs Up 👍" or "Thumbs
          Down 👎" buttons.
